A Difficult Day

Well, we have had a few difficult days. For some reason I had some pretty bad stomach issues Sunday and Monday and JR took Monday off to help....and send me back to bed! Thankfully today it is all over and we had hoped to go camping this week but the weather isn't cooperating! We have gusty winds today and there were thunderstorms where we were to camp so we decided to not go much to the disappointment of the kids! They love to camp! But towing a 30 foot trailer in winds is NOT our idea of fun-ugh! Prayerfully our scheduled trip to Priest Lake in early June will not be hindered by weather-heck, last year we were there in June and it snowed! So we'll see.

Today I got a call from the doctors office that was very disconcerting. CA 27-29 is a tumor marker specific to breast cancer that, when elevated, shows recurrence or spread of disease. The upper normal limit is 40 and at diagnosis I was 44 (just slightly elevated). The Dr wanted to draw another one since my clinical exam is negative now-no signs of cancer. She was certain the result would be lower BUT we found out today it is nearly doubled at 87! I was shocked to say the least. I immediately asked what this meant and the nurse that called me with the result then talked with the Dr and called me back. She said the Dr isn't worried because it is related to my treatment (still being in chemo) and they will recheck the test after surgery. She is going to talk to the surgeon about another PET scan (full body scan) prior to surgery though...and that is a bit scary....but understandable.

So.......many tears later we thought we would share all this with you and ask that you continue to pray for us. We have really felt God's peace and have really focused on plowing through believing that this is a hurdle to jump over and get on with the rest of our lives. BUT, in all honesty, the news today kind of hit us at the knees and knocked the wind out of our sails. We continue, however, to daily draw our strength from God and in times like this we continue to turn to Him and trust Him! Our pastor, in his sermon on Sunday had said that when someone is going through a difficult time, whether it be a layoff, a difficult diagnosis or the loss of someone, that we should be praying Ephesians 1:18 (and I added 19a) for them " I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe." We need to ask that our hearts look to God....and draw from His power and strength. We are praying that not just for us but for those we uphold in prayer in daily.
